Introduction to a future OT and her dogs

Hello! My name is Chelsey Zerby! I am a fifth year senior majoring in Health and Exercise Science and should be graduating this spring! I really enjoy learning about the human body and getting to participate in under water weighing and go to tour fitness facilities throughout the OKC area. I am applying to Occupational Therapy (OT) school for next year so please wish me luck! My favorite class last semester was Pride. I was given the opportunity to be in the Pride of Oklahoma for a fifth year, which is the University of Oklahoma's marching band. I was in the colorguard. In other words: I was one of the girls spinning flags (or maybe lightsabers or perhaps a Mario and Luigi running around) during halftime and doing Big 12 kicks with the huge flags during pregame. The most exciting thing I did this christmas break was going to Miami for the Orange Bowl. I had a blast even if it did not end up the way I wanted it to.

Meet my two dogs! Sue-ner the Pug and Zoey the Schnug! Sue-ner is ten years young and is the best cuddle-bug you will ever meet. Her favorite place is on your lap. You may think that she is the laziest thing in the world but can you blame her? Pugs were bred to sit on the emperor's lap. I think she does a great job! Zoey is a mutt. She is half miniature schnauzer and half pug (schnug). She is only six months old and Sue-ner's complete opposite. She is super energetic and thinks everything is a game. Obviously you are only putting on your socks and shoes on in the morning to entertain and have fun with the schnug! Zoey also has a stuffed duck that she is obsessed with. It is her favorite toy. You should have seen her face when my mom grabbed it to put into the washing machine. She definitely thought my mom was going to kill her duck!

I am very glad to be back in Norman and am really excited for what this semester has to bring! Honestly, I am also really looking forward to this class. I took Mythology and Folklore in fall 2014 and I absolutely loved it! I cannot wait to read everyone's stories and see how creative everyone is!

  1. Health and exercise science was one of my top three choices coming into college. I ended up choosing petroleum engineering, but continue to b e intrigued by the human body. Your dogs look really fun and I love the name Sue-ner. I wanted to go to the Orange Bowl but was already committed to a ski trip during that time. I hate that it went the way it did for your sake, but I hope you still had fun!

  2. Chelsey! I think thats great that you are wanting to get into OT school, I hope that all works for you! Its really cool that you were apart of the pride and got to "lightsaber duel on a regular basis." It cracked me up how the introduction of your dogs rhymed, "sue-ner the pug and zoey the schnug." Also, to answer your question, Id probably choose six flags as my free day amusement park.

  3. It is so nice to get to connect with you again, Chelsey! Thanks for sharing these great picture: Luigi! Light sabers! That is sooooo cool! And your dogs are such cuties. I had never heard of a Schnug before, but I am such a fan of Pugs. Frank the Pug is my favorite from Men in Black! Mushu, a.k.a. Frank the Pug. I am excited to see what you will do for class this time around!

  4. I've never seen a schnug before! Freaking cute dog, Chelsey.
You've made me feel better about taking this class, knowing you've already been through it with Myths and Folklore-- obviously you enjoyed the class and class style, or you wouldn't be here now!
Very interested to see what a veteran like you will be able to do with these assignments, can't wait to start reading your stories,

That's awesome that you were in Pride. I believe that the name "Pride" suits you guys well since you guys are the ones that keeps us cheering and energetic in every temperature. Can't wait to read more about your pug and schnug!

  6. Hello Chelsey, it is very nice to meet you. I think your dogs are absolutely adorable. If I was a dog, I would definitely relate to Sue-ner. Also, I think it's cool that you were a part of the Pride; I have seen them practicing as I drive to class, and I admire the commitment everyone puts into the Pride. Anyways, congratulations on your upcoming graduation and good luck with OT school!

  7. Chesley,

How very cool! I was a music major for the first part of my college career believe it or not. Vocal rather than band. In junior high I played the french horn. Loved it, but didn’t keep up with it. One of my favorite instruments is the violin!

I was also a physical therapy major at one point. But then made the stupid mistake of taking Chem II and Physics II in the same semester. Failed miserably.

Bred to sit on the emperor’s lap. That is awesome!

Super cute doggies! I too have never seen a Schnug! My parents used to have a miniature Schnauzer, he had such personality. His little Schnug face just begs for hugs and squeezes! Sue-ner! That is such an adorable name, goes great with that Pug face!

  11. Chelsey, That is so neat you were in the colorguard, and I’m very jealous you got to go to the Orange Bowl in Miami. I really enjoy watching them! I have never heard of a “schnug” but how cute is she, and so is Sue-ner. By the way, where did this name come from? Congratulations on your graduation and good luck with Occupational Therapy school!

    Nice to “meet” you,
    Ashlyn

    1. Ashlyn, we are huge OU fans. The name is a spin off "sooner" but we made it a little more feminine with the "Sue".

  12. Hi Chelsey! Congrats on your upcoming graduation! That must be exciting. I graduate May 2017 and I cannot wait. Also, it is cool that you are in the Pride. I was in band in middle school but did not carry it any further than that. Your dogs look so cute! I love the picture of Zoey with the duck.

  13. I love that the photos you posted all look like Polaroid pictures, it's so cute! I am so jealous that you got to go to the orange bowl! I've had a couple friends on color guard and it seems like a really fun way to get to participate at the football games! And that's neat that they let you mix things up every once in a while with the different characters!

It is nice to meet you. I love your dogs! I love pugs! Good luck in chasing your career. I am sure you will become very successful. Its cool to see that I have actually seen you before (Luigi run). I am sad to think about our loss in the Orange Bowl. I am excited to learn more about you over the semester.

  15. Hello Chelsey, it is so cool that you are graduating this year. Congratulations! It is also awesome that you are in Pride. I am sure you will have a ton of memories from being in it. I did not know pugs were meant to sit on an emperor’s lap, how interesting. I took Myth and Folklore too and was definitely one of my favorite classes so far. Hope you have a good semester!

  18. Hi Chelsey!

I am also a fifth year senior. It's always refreshing to meet other people who took their time with school too. I took Myth and Folklore last semester and loved it. 20. Hi Chelsy!
Fellow HES major!! I love our major and how much we learn about how the body works. It’s fascinating stuff!! That is so cool that you were in Pride! You guys always do such an amazing job! And I remember the game with Luigi and Mario running around, so that’s so cool that I know it was you now!! Best of luck in your application to OT school!!

  21. Hi, Chelsey!

Good luck applying to occupational therapy school! My cousin is an occupational therapist, and even though he is more on the administrative side of things now, he LOVES his job. I think you picked a great field! Also, on a partially unrelated note, I love that you were Luigi during one of the games. That’s hilarious!

YOUR DOGS ARE PRECIOUS. My boyfriend is partial to pugs, and while I never thought I would want one (I’m more of a big dog person; my sweet Tucker is an exception), the Dug the Pug facebook account is slowly winning me over. I love their little faces! I had no idea they were bred to sit on emperor’s laps!

It was so nice getting to meet you, and I hope the rest of the semester goes well for you!
